Help With Uber and Lyft Injury Claims in Monrovia
A rideshare crash can leave you hearing from several insurers while you are still trying to understand your injuries. A passenger may not know which driver caused the impact. Someone struck by an app-based driver may not know whether a ride had been accepted. Noravian Law Firm investigates those questions for people injured in Monrovia Uber and Lyft accidents.
Our lawyers reconstruct the collision and the trip timeline, identify the applicable coverage and open the claims. We handle insurer communications and requests for statements, obtain formal trip records and pursue compensation for the losses the evidence supports. Call 818-548-8000 for a free consultation before or after an insurer has responded.
How Rideshare Crashes Happen
App use can explain what a driver was doing, but the investigation still needs to establish the conduct that caused the crash. We examine issues such as:
- Looking at navigation or ride requests while driving
- Following too closely, speeding or reacting late to stopped traffic
- Fatigue during a driving shift
- Turning or changing lanes without adequate clearance
- Failing to yield at an intersection or crossing
- Stopping, pulling out or making an unsafe movement during a pickup or drop-off
A collision near a pickup point may happen before the driver accepts a ride, while traveling to the passenger or during boarding. Those moments can lead to different insurance questions. We compare the physical collision evidence with app timestamps and the passenger’s account rather than relying only on the location shown on a receipt.
California Rideshare Insurance: Three Active Trip Stages
California’s transportation network insurance law distinguishes the driver’s activity at the time of the crash. Liability coverage addresses responsibility for harm to others; uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage addresses qualifying injuries involving a driver without sufficient insurance.
1. Logged in and waiting for a request
During the waiting period, required primary liability limits are at least $50,000 for injury or death per person, $100,000 per incident and $30,000 for property damage. The transportation network company must also maintain at least $200,000 in excess liability coverage per occurrence. This waiting period can apply again after the prior ride or app transaction is complete, whichever occurs later, while the driver remains logged in without another accepted request.
2. A request has been accepted and the driver is approaching the passenger
Required primary liability coverage increases to $1 million once the driver accepts the request. It continues until the ride is complete or the driver completes the app transaction, whichever is later. The passenger does not have to be in the car for this accepted-ride liability period to begin.
3. The passenger is in the vehicle
The $1 million liability requirement continues during the ride. Separate passenger uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage applies from entry until exit. For crashes on or after January 1, 2026, the statutory UM/UIM requirement is $60,000 per person and $300,000 per incident, primary over other applicable UM/UIM coverage and maintained by the transportation network company. Earlier crash dates may involve different requirements; our lawyers check the law and policy in effect for the loss.
When the app is off: If the driver is offline and no accepted ride remains in progress, we review the personal auto policy and any other applicable insurance. Vehicle collision or comprehensive coverage is a separate issue from the liability limits above.
These are coverage requirements, not promised settlement amounts. The crash date, actual trip status, policy terms, fault and injury evidence all matter. Our lawyers obtain the coverage documents and address disputes between insurers.
What to Do After a Rideshare Accident
- Call 911 for injuries or immediate danger and follow emergency responders’ instructions.
- Seek medical attention and tell your treatment provider about your symptoms.
- If safe, photograph the vehicles, scene and visible injuries without delaying care.
- Keep witness information and any receipt, driver details, messages or screenshots already available in your app.
- Speak with Noravian Law Firm about the accident and the problems you are facing.
You can contact us even if you left by ambulance or cannot access a trip record. Our team opens the claims, handles insurance communications, coordinates any required app report and requests the records and recordings needed to investigate.
Injuries From a Rideshare Collision
Passengers, other motorists and people outside the vehicle can suffer injuries such as:
- Concussions and traumatic brain injuries
- Neck, back and spinal cord injuries
- Fractures and injuries requiring surgery
- Burns, lacerations and scarring
- Emotional distress, anxiety or post-traumatic symptoms
The initial diagnosis may not explain the full recovery. Our lawyers review ongoing treatment, work restrictions and the effect on daily activities when evaluating the claim. Future care needs require evidence rather than assumptions based on an insurance limit.
Who Can Be Held Responsible?
A rideshare case may involve the app-based driver, another motorist, a business responsible for its own conduct or a contractor that created a dangerous condition. A qualifying public-road claim involves additional legal requirements and earlier claim deadlines. We investigate how each party’s actions contributed to the injury.
California’s app-based driver classification rule, Business and Professions Code section 7451, treats a driver as an independent contractor rather than an employee or agent when the law’s conditions are met. A platform therefore is not automatically responsible as an employer for every driver’s crash. A claim alleging the company’s own wrongful conduct requires a separate factual and legal basis.
The question of whether Uber or Lyft can be sued directly is also distinct from whether a rideshare insurance policy covers the collision. Our lawyers evaluate both and pursue the claims supported by the circumstances.
Damages a Rideshare Claim May Address
Compensation can include economic losses that can be documented financially and non-economic harm affecting your life. Depending on the case, these may include:
- Medical treatment already received and reasonably expected future care
- Lost wages and reduced earning capacity
- Recoverable vehicle or other property damage
- Pain, emotional distress and loss of enjoyment of life
- Scarring, disfigurement and continuing disability
We use medical and employment evidence to explain financial losses, and the effects on sleep, mobility, activities and independence to explain personal harm. Under California’s comparative-fault rules, a person’s damages may be reduced by their share of responsibility. A policy’s stated limit does not measure the injury or guarantee payment.
What Noravian Law Firm Handles
Rideshare claims need a clear timeline: when the request was accepted, where the vehicle was and whether a passenger had entered or exited. Our lawyers compare that timeline with evidence of the collision and address the coverage questions it raises.
- Requesting relevant trip, location and app records from their holders
- Obtaining applicable policies and evaluating competing coverage positions
- Opening claims and managing insurer correspondence and negotiations
- Documenting the injury’s present and likely future effects
- Preparing litigation when an acceptable resolution cannot be reached
We explain why a particular record matters and how the available evidence affects your options. You should be able to evaluate an offer with an understanding of the claim, including unresolved questions about fault, coverage or recovery.

FAQs About Uber and Lyft Accident Claims
How long do I have to file an injury lawsuit?
California’s usual personal injury deadline is two years from injury. A public-entity injury claim generally requires an administrative claim within six months, followed by a separate lawsuit deadline. We identify the applicable dates and exceptions and handle the filings.
What if another driver hit the Uber or Lyft I was riding in?
The other driver’s liability insurance may be relevant. Passenger uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage may also apply if the driver lacks sufficient coverage and the claim meets the policy and legal requirements. We evaluate the accident date, policies and available limits together.
Can I sue the rideshare company directly?
Sometimes the facts may support a direct claim, but the company’s involvement in arranging a ride does not automatically establish liability. Driver classification, the company’s own conduct and the legal basis for responsibility must be examined. A covered insurance claim does not necessarily require a successful direct lawsuit against the platform.
Can you help if an insurer denies coverage or blames another insurer?
Yes. We review the denial or coverage position, obtain the relevant policies and compare the trip records with the stated reason. Our lawyers handle the response and assess further action. We can also begin representation before any claim has been opened or denied.
GoMonrovia Trips and Station Pickups
Monrovia has a local transportation detail that can matter after a crash: GoMonrovia includes both a Lyft Pass and Monrovia Transit. The latter is the city’s accessible service for eligible seniors and people with disabilities. Approved Transit riders can request a Transit vehicle through the Lyft app, but that does not turn every such trip into an ordinary Lyft ride. We identify the actual vehicle, operator and service used before deciding which insurance and liability rules apply.
The city also describes different service areas for Monrovia Transit and the Lyft Pass. A trip crossing into an adjacent community therefore needs to be examined from its records, not just a program name or the fact that an app was used. A discounted fare alone does not establish who caused a collision or which policy covers it.
Monrovia station is northwest of Duarte Road and Myrtle Avenue, and Metro lists it on the A Line. In a pickup or drop-off collision there, a few moments can matter: the driver’s approach after acceptance, the passenger’s entry and the exit at the end of a ride have different coverage significance. Our lawyers compare the actual stopping point and vehicle movement with the trip timeline and available footage.
